Mobile Device Policy

If you allow your employees to use their own mobile devices to access your firm’s electronic data – you need a Mobile Device Policy.  Included in a Mobile Device Policy should be laptops, hard drives, smart phones, tablets, handheld computers, etc.

Things to consider:

  • What devices you will allow to access the firm’s electronic data
  • Having IT review the device to be sure that it is properly secure
  • How will you allow the device to access the internet (use of free wi-fi)
  • Passwords used and frequency of change
  • Remote wipe in the event of loss
  • Encryption for those devices that allow it
  • What information they can download to a personal device
  • How you will remove access once an employee leaves the firm and what information they already have on their personal device
