Privacy Laws and Social Media

Both California and Massachusetts have strong privacy laws.   In these states you can’t do a google search of an employee’s name (which your social media policy may require) without prior approval from the employee. This is where Compliance and Human Resources need to work together.

In these states use an annual certification of your social media policy by employees.  Be sure your policy is very clear about what is allowable and what is not allowable in regards to social media.
